She’s bubbly, she’s beautiful and she’s an object of desire for many men. She’s Maria, and she’s darn proud to call herself a WWE Diva. While many may think she’s ditzy or absent-minded, there’s one thing that’s well-known: she’s hot.
But hey, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Maria has won many beauty pageants in her time, but she’s not just all beauty. From kickboxing to sewing to dancing to working on cars, Maria’s areas of expertise make her one of the best-rounded Divas in WWE.
After years of entering beauty pageants and an education at Northern Illinois University, the Ottawa, Ill., native struck it big by nearly making it to the end of the 2004 Diva Search. While she didn’t win, our fans felt an immediate connection to her, and she quickly made her way to Raw as a backstage interviewer who wasn’t afraid to ask any question, from the hard-hitting to the quirkily obvious. And of course, she looks great doing it, perhaps no more so than when Eugene doused her with chocolate milk after winning the World Tag Team Championship that year.
Since her debut in WWE, however, Maria’s role has expanded by leaps and bounds. At first, she was tentative to step into the ring, but to this day she continues to learn the ropes and develop into an exciting and skilled performer. She also can be seen (or read, as it may be) lending her auto expertise to our fans in her very own WWE Magazine column every month. Another magazine our fans might be interested in perusing is the April 2008 issue of Playboy, in which Maria showed our fans what's under her hood, namely a racy chassis and va-va-voom curves.
If there’s one other thing for sure about Maria, though, it’s that while she radiates beauty, the girl her friends call “Boop” won’t stop honing her craft until she wears the Women’s gold around her waist. So watch out all you stars and studs in the locker room, because you never know when you’re going to get your dose of Maria.

Carlito spits in the face of people who don't want to be cool, and apparently, many WWE Superstars fall into the category.
Exceptionally opinionated and full of himself, the second-generation Superstar (who is the son of the legendary Carlos Colon) projects quite the smooth demeanor. Armed with an apple in hand, Carlito isn't afraid to unload a mouthful of apple and spit it into your face if you’re not cool enough in his eyes.
Of course, WWE Superstars haven't taken well to Carlito’s cooler-than-thou attitude, which has oozed from the Caribbean native since his dramatic debut in October 2004, when he defeated John Cena for the United States Championship in his very first night on SmackDown.
Carlito found his voice in his own show when "Carlito’s Cabana" debuted in 2005. Irritating and disrespectful to countless Superstars on the Cabana, Carlito maintained his spot as one of the most loathed Superstars on SmackDown.
Fate brought the cool customer and his Cabana to Raw through the Draft Lottery in June 2005, and Carlito made an impact from the get-go. In his first Raw match, the Bad Apple won the Intercontinental Championship from Shelton Benjamin. He would lose the title to Ric Flair at Unforgiven later that year.
By way of the 2008 WWE Draft, Carlito returned anew to SmackDown, where he arguably had his greatest success when he debuted, defeating John Cena.
Carlito is full of potential that has yet to be fully realized. Maybe there is a World Championship in his future. For Carlito, there’s no doubt that – that would be cool

For a moment, forget all the monikers and catch phrases. Overlook the seemingly countless championships and tournaments he has won. Ignore the fact that he has spearheaded two of the most important factions in WWE history, and overcome what the pundits considered a career-ending injuries. You need only two words to properly sum up Triple H: The Game
Strong words, especially when one considers the King of Kings was once a 135-pound “beanpole” from Nashua, N.H. But when he received a free one-week membership for a small local gym one summer day, the 14-year-old “gangly” teen’s life changed forever. For the next three years, he spent nearly every day in that gym, developing every muscle in his body and transforming himself into a six-foot-four, 210-pound powerhouse. He entered — and won — numerous regional bodybuilding competitions, including the prestigious Teen Mr. New Hampshire title at the age of 19. Yet The Game himself admits, “I never seriously considered becoming a pro bodybuilder…My dream was World Wrestling Entertainment.”
Enrolling in Walter “Killer” Kowalski’s Pro Wrestling School in Malden, Mass., the future Cerebral Assassin trained four days a week under Kowalski’s “tough love” tutelage, then divided his weekends between wrestling in the independent circuit and managing a Gold’s Gym in Nashua. Almost inconceivably, he would have to fly himself down to Atlanta in 1993, to convince then-new VP Eric Bischoff that he was “good enough” to join the World Championship Wrestling roster. Fortunately, the unlimited potential he showed at World Championship Wrestling quickly got him noticed at World Wrestling Entertainment; by May 1995, “Hunter Hearst-Helmsley” (a name which soon became more identifiable as Triple H) would make his WWE debut. And the rest, as they say, is history.
More than 20 years after entering that small Nashua gym, Triple H maintains the strictest of training regimens, incorporating techniques from world-renowned fitness trainers like Charles Glass. Such dedication has provided him with the fortitude to become a Grand Slam champion; the wisdom to shepherd the “Evolution” of then-newcomers Randy Orton and Batista to WWE Superstardom; the charisma to star in feature films, television shows, and commercials; and the stamina to pull countless sophomoric pranks on Mr. McMahon as a founder of D-Generation X. And it’s precisely what makes him “that damn good.”

WWE Championship Scramble
For WWE Champion Triple H, United States Champion Shelton Benjamin, Jeff Hardy, Montel Vontavious Porter and The Brian Kendrick, every second will count at Unforgiven. The five Superstars will make history by participating in the first-ever WWE Championship Scramble Match, where for 20 minutes, it’s anyone’s game.
On SmackDown, General Manager Vickie Guerrero, taking note of Raw GM Mike Adamle’s decree for the World Heavyweight Championship, announced a series of qualifying matches to determine the four Superstars who would join WWE Champion Triple H in the ring for the unprecedented title contest at Unforgiven. The Brian Kendrick was the first to win his chance after a grueling 10-Man Battle Royal in which he – with some assistance from his right-hand man, Ezekiel Jackson – dominated over both WWE veterans and newcomers.
Next, MVP stole a victory over Festus, earning him a spot in the Scramble. In the third qualifying match, United States Champion Shelton Benjamin beat Finlay, taking SmackDown’s Gold Standard one step closer to becoming a dual-title holder. For the last qualifier, WWE Champion Triple H was on-hand at ringside to witness Jeff Hardy defeat the man The Game towered over following their match at SummerSlam – The Great Khali.
The rules for the WWE Championship Scramble are simple: Two randomly selected ring warriors will start the match, with a new challenger stepping in every five minutes. If a man scores a pinfall or submission on any other in the match, he is declared the "interim" champion – though he will not be historically recognized as such. The title can change hands as many times as necessary throughout the bout, and the Superstar to earn the final pinfall or submission within the 20-minute time limit will be officially declared the WWE Champion.
For The King of Kings, this means he may lose his gold to any opponent without warning. Once the clock starts, there is no stopping the carnage which is sure to ensue – all for the richest prize in the game.
Will Triple H be able to take control in the Championship Scramble and protect his spot at the top of WWE? Can MVP and Jeff Hardy put their personal rivalry aside long enough to focus on the WWE Championship? Or will United States Champion Shelton Benjamin live up to his moniker as the Gold Standard and walk out of Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena with two titles draped over his shoulders?
Find out who will reign supreme as WWE Champion at Unforgiven, live Sunday, Sept. 7, only on pay-per-view.
World Heavyweight Championship Scramble
One ring, five men, 20 minutes. It’s all sure to add up to one of the most unpredictable matches in WWE history.
Raw General Manager Mike Adamle announced what he dubbed a “Championship Scramble” Match for Unforgiven. In what promises to be a thrilling World Heavyweight Title bout, reigning champion CM Punk and four former World Champions – Batista, Kane, JBL and Rey Mysterio – will battle in the ring at the same time for 20 minutes.
Once the clock starts, it’s every man for himself. If any of the Superstars scores a pinfall or submission on any of their competitors, they become the current champion. But that’s not nearly the end of it.
The championship can change hands several times throughout the 20-minute time frame. Whoever the champion is when the clock stops will officially be recognized as the World Heavyweight Champion.
General Rules of the match:
The match has a 20-minute time limit. Two randomly selected participants will start the match, with a new challenger entering the match every five minutes.
If a Superstar scores a pinfall or submission on any other Superstar in the match, he is declared the "interim" champion for match purposes (and is not officially recognized as champion in the title history). He holds that designation until another Superstar scores a subsequent pinfall or submission on any other Superstar.
The last Superstar to earn a pinfall or submission within the time limit will be officially declared the World Heavyweight Champion.
Originally scheduled to appear in this chaotic contest was John Cena, but due to an injury, the Chain Gang Commander will not be able to participate. Moving quickly, Raw’s General Manager pulled in another former World Champion: Rey Mysterio, who has been missing from the Raw brand in recent months, due to a brutal attack by Kane, if the Big Red Monster’s claims are to be believed.
While current champion Punk fended off title challenges by Batista and more recently showed his resilience against JBL, none of those trials can compare to the carnage the fighting champion is certain to face when he sets foot in the ring at Unforgiven.
With so many heated rivalries ricocheting throughout the Quicken Loans Arena, who will get caught in the crossfire? How will alliances form and falter? And just who among the five will emerge victorious when the final bell sounds?
Unsanctioned Match
Despite Shawn Michaels’ doctor’s suggestion to hang up his boots due to injury, HBK extended a challenge to Chris Jericho for an Unsanctioned Match at Unforgiven, where neither Jericho nor WWE would be liable if Michaels were to sustain further injury.
Can you blame HBK for doing everything he could to ensure that he would face Jericho at the aptly named Unforgiven?
What would you do if, just moments after you announced your retirement from the business you loved, that you gave your livelihood to and that you bled for, you were on your knees holding the fallen body of your wife, who was punched, without provocation, by the man who is solely responsible for your announcement?
For months now, Chris Jericho has plagued the life and career of HBK with his new sense of self-righteousness and his unrelenting verbal and physical attacks on The Showstopper. Ever since he revealed his true intentions after interjecting himself into Michaels’ business in April, Jericho has berated HBK and all the WWE Universe for supporting an “immoral” man. In the end, Jericho had even gone so far as to force Michaels’ hand in having to contemplate retirement after repeatedly attacking and re-injuring The Showstopper’s eye and possibly detaching his retina.
At SummerSlam, however, the first-ever Undisputed Champion may have been counterproductive in his actions when he struck Michaels’ wife, Rebecca, in the center of the WWE ring. Whether he meant to hit her or not, Jericho showed no remorse the next night on Raw, once again taking the moment to preach against HBK and all of the WWE Universe.
One week later on Raw, as Jericho accepted HBK’s challenge, Michaels promised that he won’t forgive Jericho for what he has done to his family and he won’t be looking to “steal the show.” He will be looking for one thing and one thing only – “an eye for an eye.”
With it now seeming as though Jericho has awoken a sleeping beast within Shawn Michaels, will the Superstar formerly referred to as Y2J be able to subdue the wrath of HBK? Or will it truly be “an eye for an eye” with Michaels exacting his revenge on the diabolical Jericho?
Watch and find out as these two wage war at Unforgiven only on pay-per-view.
World Tag Team Championship Match
Though Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase are the current World Tag Team Champions, their actual titles are in the hands of Cryme Tyme, who stole the titles from the champions. At Unforgiven, Cryme Tyme will have a chance to make the championship gold around their waists official as they face off against Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase for the World Tag Team Championship.
During a recent Handicap Match between John Cena and Rhodes & DiBiase, Cryme Tyme liberated the World Tag Team titles from the champions. Shad & JTG later explained their actions, saying that since they hadn’t been given a World Tag Team Title Match, they decided to “borrow” the titles. Giving the champions a chance to win back their physical titles, and themselves a chance to become World Tag Team Champions, Cryme Tyme challenged Rhodes & DiBiase to a match at Unforgiven. Planning on teaching Shad & JTG a lesson, the champions quickly accepted.
Though still in their early 20s, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase have made their mark on Raw, becoming three-time and two-time World Tag Team Champions, respectively. The champions have faced Cryme Tyme as part of multiple six-man tag matches, but never defended their titles against Shad & JTG.
Both of these tag teams are made up of young, powerful Superstars, with proven track records of success, and both are competing with the hopes of becoming the rightful holders of the World Tag Team Championship. When Cryme Tyme and Rhodes & DiBiase face off at Unforgiven, the WWE Universe will certainly be in for a “priceless” competition, but who will walk away with the gold?
Find out who will be the World Heavyweight Champion by watching Unforgiven, live Sunday, Sept. 7, only on pay-per-view.
Jericho hits new low... and HBK's wife
INDIANAPOLIS – The mood suddenly turned solemn at the Conseco Fieldhouse as Shawn Michaels stepped out in front of the WWE Universe with his wife Rebecca to make an announcement that all our WWE fans have been both awaiting and fearing at the same time. That sentiment turned to disgust thanks to Chris Jericho.
If it weren’t for the despicable actions of Jericho in the first place, Michaels wouldn’t be in this situation with his potential retirement looming in the air. In multiple altercations with the man formerly referred to as Y2J, Michaels has injured and re-injured his eye, even possibly detaching his retina.
After Michaels announced that he would take his doctor’s advice and hang up his boots, Chris Jericho’s music blasted through the arena to interrupt The Showstopper’s emotional farewell. What followed was a war of words between the two, but the situation then escalated to unimaginable heights.
Following Jericho demanding that Michaels tell his wife, his children and all the WWE Universe that Jericho was the reason that HBK had to retire, a proud Michaels agreed only if Jericho went home and told his own wife and children that he will never be The Showstopper. These words sent his rival over the edge. In an attempt to attack HBK, Jericho missed and struck Michaels’ wife Rebecca instead.
Immediately after, Michaels dropped down by his wife’s side tending to her and holding her in his arms. The whole time Michaels and WWE officials cared for Rebecca, Jericho just stared on as he slowly backed his way up the ramp to the locker room area.
There is no doubt that even though Jericho may believe he has matured and is looking to take his career to new heights as his own savior, he has - in reality - only sunk lower then ever before, especially following his inexcusable actions at SummerSlam.
Also, where does this leave HBK? Can he truly walk away after what Jericho did to his wife?
'Glamarella' wins the gold
INDIANAPOLIS – The unlikely lovebirds prevailed to win the gold at the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer. After defeating Kofi Kingston & Mickie James in the Winners Take All Match at SummerSlam, Santino Marella is the new Intercontinental Champion and Beth Phoenix is the new Women’s Champion.
When Raw General Manager Mike Adamle made the “Adamle Original” match, the rules stated the titles would go to the team getting the pinfall or submission. After James hit Marella with a brutal DDT, The Glamazon retaliated and pinned the Diva for the intergender tag team win. Phoenix is now a two-time Women’s Champion, and Marella is a two-time holder of the Intercontinental Title.
After the match, Phoenix proved her strength once again when she carried her unibrow-sporting, gold-toting boyfriend up the ramp in celebration. That’s amore! With “Glamarella” holding two very prestigious WWE titles, will anyone be able to stop this unlikely couple?
MVP scores a Gold Standard victory over Jeff Hardy
INDIANAPOLIS – Tonight at the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer, a fired-up MVP overcame the high-flying Jeff Hardy in a hard fought bout, thanks in part to the involvement of United States Champion Shelton Benjamin.
The match proved to be a furious battle from the very beginning. With a combination of fast-paced maneuvers and grueling holds, the personal animosity between both Superstars kept them fighting to the bitter end. Every time it looked like MVP might put him away, Hardy refused to give up. Then, when it looked as if the Legend Thriller had overcome MVP and was going to deliver a winning Swanton Bomb, United States Champion Shelton Benjamin emerged from nowhere and distracted Hardy long enough for Porter to turn the tables and pick up the victory.
Benjamin has lived in the backdrop of MVP collision course with Jeff Hardy over the past several weeks. Spawned from the foundations of a heated conflict between the Ballin’ Superstar and Hardy’s brother, Matt, their hatred has grown into a towering inferno. A controversial VIP Lounge where MVP openly exploited Hardy’s personal mishaps from the past year – setbacks that had caused him to miss WrestleMania XXIV and lose his home – ignited the rivalry. Hardy’s retaliation was a Twist of Fate after MVP’s match the following week and the Franchise Playa’s subsequent interference in three of Hardy’s matches fueled the flame. And Hardy’s Stereo Swanton Bomb on both MVP and the reigning United States Champion Benjamin after the Ballin’ Superstar’s third sneak attack set the fuse that would to lead to their explosive SummerSlam showdown.
Despite the outcome of this match, it could be Shelton Benjamin who feels the ultimate fury when all is said and done.
Batista's blockbuster triumph
INDIANAPOLIS - Two of the most dominant WWE Superstars of this decade – Batista and John Cena – weaved very parallel career paths that ultimately intersected at SummerSlam, and the eagerly anticipated one-on-one confrontation ended with The Animal roaring in victory.
The blockbuster battle more than six years in the making was a match for the ages. When both men first debuted in 2002, perhaps only a few of sports-entertainment’s most erudite maestros could foresee the achievements that awaited Cena and Batista.
From their initial appearances on SmackDown to each man’s respective World Championship triumph at WrestleMania 21 (the first of several for both), The Animal and the Chain Gang Commander would permanently alter the WWE landscape.
Their first-ever singles bout at SummerSlam was no different, as the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer bore one of the most memorable and iconic collisions for all time. But, like other much lauded SummerSlam showdowns including WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart vs. British Bulldog in 1992 and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. Undertaker in ’98, only one man could emerge the victor.
Each Superstar familiar with having the distinct strength advantage, the very recent former co-holders of the World Tag Team Titles unleashed a torrent of power moves that would have easily finished many other contenders. They even ventured into the submission realm; Cena locking in the STFU and Batista clinching his mentor Ric Flair’s signature Figure-Four Leglock.
Toe-to-toe they stood until the clash of resilience and raw force came to a climactic close. The Animal earlier recovered from an earth-rattling FU and returned the favor by catching a high-flying Cena mid-air for a modified Batista Bomb. When the Chain Gang Commander mustered the gumption to kick out, The Animal went rabid, into an even fiercer mode.
With that, Batista hoisted his rival for yet another tumultuous powerbomb, covered him and proved himself to be three seconds better than John Cena on this historic night.
With this mammoth win over a fellow Raw Superstar and top contender, The Animal has unquestionably clawed his way back to the World Heavyweight Championship track. Don’t expect, however, to not see Cena pick himself up and climb his way back to the top alongside Batista … potentially for a rematch the entire WWE Universe would clamor to witness.
Atlas sparks a premature ending
INDIANAPOLIS – Forty percent of the WWE Universe predicted Mark Henry would remain ECW Champion after SummerSlam, but nobody could have guessed how the events of the night would unfold. After challenger Matt Hardy fell victim to an attack by WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas, and Henry retained the gold via disqualification, Jeff Hardy rushed to his brother's side and leveled Atlas before the siblings teamed up on Henry for a double-suplex.
The lack of closure in Indianapolis simply adds more fuel to the fiery rivalry between Hardy and the World’s Strongest Champion. Their SummerSlam contest was arranged just two days after Henry retained the gold at The Great American Bash. Since that day, Henry has shown nothing but confidence and the challenger has been a poster image of determination.
Last week on ECW, the competitors were forced to work together in tag team action. Despite earning a win, their temporary alliance proved to be mission impossible when the ECW Champion buried Hardy with the World’s Strongest Slam.
Hardy has endured attack after attack from Mark Henry and his associates, but the zealous Superstar continues to fight. How much more will he have to endure in order to be ECW Champion?
Punk proves his weight in gold
INDIANAPOLIS – After constantly being called an undeserving World Heavyweight Champion by John “Bradshaw” Layfield, CM Punk endured yet another challenging opponent when he pinned the self-proclaimed “wrestling god” at SummerSlam.
When the Straightedge Superstar exercised his title match opportunity, cashing in his Money in the Bank Ladder Match reward from WrestleMania and taking advantage of a semi-conscious Edge, it was met with some controversy. JBL was not quiet when it came to his opinion of the title’s validity being compromised – even after he challenged and lost to CM Punk the night the Straightedge Superstar captured the gold.
JBL earned this SummerSlam showdown on Raw when General Manager Mike Adamle called for the Longhorn Loudmouth & Chris Jericho to take on Punk in a Handicap Match under the stipulation that whoever pinned Punk would earn a World Heavyweight Title Match. JBL’s fortunate cover of the World Heavyweight Champion was widely criticized.
Despite his vast claims, JBL failed to make the most of his opening at SummerSlam, only adding himself to Punk’s list of victims since fastening the gold around his waist.
Giant slayer
INDIANAPOLIS – Using a devastating Pedigree, WWE Champion Triple H toppled his largest opponent ever – the 7-foot, 3-inch, 420-pound Great Khali – to retain his title at the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer.
In their first-ever match, The Game and the Punjabi Giant exchanged a series of attacks with one goal in mind – the WWE Championship.
In the weeks leading up to SummerSlam, both Superstars made their intentions known in encounters on SmackDown – neither was backing down from the other.
First, The King of Kings took on The Great Khali in a risky Indian Broken Glass Arm Wrestling Contest. But before a winner could be determined, the Punjabi Giant head butted the champion and crushed his head with an overpowering Vise Grip. Then, just one week later on SmackDown, the two clashed again with The Game knocking the giant off of his feet and out of the ring. In both SmackDown encounters, The Game failed to lock The Great Khali in the Pedigree.
But at SummerSlam, The King of Kings was able to battle back from sessions in the Khali Vise Grip and a vicious Khali Chop to apply his signature move and pick up the victory and retain the gold.
Since coming to SmackDown from Raw via the 2008 WWE Draft, Triple H has rocked Edge’s world with hidden video footage of the Rated-R Superstar. And now, The Game has defeated the 420-pound Punjabi Giant. Who or what can stop The King of Kings?
Unleashed in Hell
INDIANAPOLIS – Edge’s path to salvation ended at SummerSlam, when Undertaker returned and sent the Rated-R Superstar straight to Hell after a destructive and demonic Hell in a Cell Match.
After being banished at One Night Stand at the hands of Edge and his wife, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero, The Phenom’s resurgence at SummerSlam may have banished Edge to a much worse place, and has sent notice to all of WWE – Undertaker is back. And with all due respect to SmackDown’s GM, hell hath no fury like The Deadman scorned.
While Edge’s recent attitude change made the WWE Universe believe he could withstand the onslaught that was expected, nothing could prepare anyone for the damning the Rated-R Superstar faced in the “Devil’s Playground.” Despite his best efforts – including an incredible running spear through the announce tables after the Cell broke open during the contest, the use of a ladder and many other weapons – Edge could not overcome the anger-fueled attacks of The Phenom. After a devastating Tombstone sealed the win for Undertaker, he unleashed his aggression on the Rated-R Superstar, chokeslamming Edge from the top of a ladder through the ring.
Just as it seemed that Undertaker was content with this destruction, he raised his hands in the air, and flames erupted from underneath the ring where Edge had just sunk in. What does this mean for the Ultimate Opportunist?
Now that Undertaker has seemingly earned his revenge, will the WWE Universe see Edge ever again? Will The Deadman turn his attention to Edge’s bride and make Guerrero pay for her part in his banishment?

WWE inks multi-year commitment to Make-A-Wish; Cena honored
PHOENIX – National and international media, along with WWE Superstar John Cena and Diva Lilian Garcia, gathered at US Airways Center’s press lounge Tuesday to hear Make-A-Wish Foundation CEO David Williams’ historic announcement – that WWE and Make-A-Wish will be strengthening their 20-year relationship with a new, multi-year agreement.
“Support from WWE is very important in helping us provide magnificent wishes for families,” Williams said, speaking of the impact WWE has had on children and families for two decades. “We are very proud to be associated with WWE, and hope that we will be working together for many years to come.”
The groundbreaking parternship’s first act will be WWE’s biggest wish-granting event ever at WrestleMania XXIV. Fifty wishes will be granted during the course of the next five weeks, culminating in a star-filled experience hosted by WWE in Orlando, Fla., during the weekend of The Granddaddy of Them All.
The children will meet their favorite Superstars while participating in a weekend full of activities, including events at Universal Orlando Resort. The children will be inducted into the WWE Make-A-Wish “Circle of Champions” at the annual Bacon, Bagels and Biceps Brunch sponsored by the David Maus Foundation.
Actress and singer Raven-Symoné, star of That’s So Raven, Cheetah Girls and the upcoming film College Road Trip, will help in grant wishes at WrestleMania. Symoné, 22, has granted 60 wishes to date.
Cena hits the century mark WWE Superstar John Cena was honored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation for his contributions of granting 100 wishes to children since 2004. The former WWE Champion joins an elite celebrity group including NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant and NASCAR star Jeff Gordon.
“We’ll have the real celebration when we hit 1,000,” Cena said. “It’s not about the people who grant the wishes. It’s about the people who get the wishes. This award will definitely hold a place in my personal portfolio in very high regard.”
According to Williams, Cena is on pace to be the biggest wish-granter in Make-A-Wish Foundation’s illustrious history.
“One hundred wishes is a lot. We typically don’t see that many celebrities grant that many wishes. It speaks to the popularity of WWE and the popularity of John Cena. When a milestone such as this is reached, we feel that it is important to acknowledge the person that’s doing it,” Williams said.
For his contributions, Cena was presented with a large plaque that contained pictures of some of the children he has granted wishes for. After being introduced, the three-time WWE Champion was at a loss for words.
“I just want people to realize the impact this charity has on society. Make-A-Wish makes people happy, and I’m just honored to be a part of that puzzle,” Cena expressed.
Cena’s sentiment was felt by Max La Caria, a 9-year-old Wish child who took part in the press conference. This was La Caria’s first time meeting his favorite Superstar. When Cena introduced La Caria, the youngster’s eyes filled with tears. Then, Cena told his young fan that he would be his special guest at WrestleMania XXIV.
“I was so excited that I didn’t know what to say. I can’t believe that I’m going to WrestleMania,” La Caria revealed, tears of joy rolling down his face.
“The kids faces light up when they see John, but John’s face lights up, too,” said Lilian Garcia, who opened up the conference by welcoming media in English and Spanish. “It’s completely amazing. I can tell this means a lot to him. With his schedule being so crazy and to meet so many kids in such a short timespan speaks volumes about John as a person.”

Let’s be honest: hailing from the rolling hills and broad valleys that constitute West Newbury, Mass., will likely never earn you “street cred”--unless, of course, you’re John Cena. Then again, it didn’t happen overnight for him, either. Long before he became the Dr. of Thuganomics, young Cena had to endure the neighborhood rocker kids’ taunts about his baggy pants and rayon Kwamé shirts. His love for freestyling lyrics about rebellion and individualism just didn’t fit within the small rural community. By the time he turned 15, however, those same kids would stop teasing him, for it became apparent that Cena had been developing another passion: hitting the gym.
After applying to more than 60 colleges (and being accepted by 58), Cena attended Massachusetts’ Springfield College, where he excelled as a Division III All-American offensive lineman and team captain for the Pride. But as much as he fondly remembers his college football accomplishments, he’s equally as proud of earning his degree in Exercise Physiology, which he attributes to making him a smarter, more durable performer in the ring today.
Though a huge WWE fan since childhood, rooting for heroes like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, and Shawn Michaels, Cena had honestly never even considered a career in sports-entertainment. Instead, he flew out to California in 2000, to pursue a profession in bodybuilding (a move he now admits to making simply because his father had told him he wouldn’t make it out there). But while working behind the counter of Gold’s Gym in Venice, a discussion with a wrestler-in-training encouraged Cena to enroll in classes at Ultimate Pro Wrestling. He was instantly hooked, and became motivated to learn everything he could about his newfound craft. He obviously proved a quick study; within a year, World Wrestling Entertainment signed Cena to a developmental contract to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling. By June 2002, he had joined the SmackDown roster, and less than a year later headlined the first of what has since become countless main-event matches.
That said, Cena has never forgotten his roots. In fact, remembering where he came from has helped him evolve into the man he is today: a well-versed hip-hop artist, a successful movie star and a blue-collared Chain Gang Soldier who’s always ready to fight. In his jean shorts and Reebok Pumps, he leads his WWE fan-based army into battle with the mission statement he’s been down with since Day One: hustle, loyalty and respect.

Randy Orton doesn’t have many interests. Other than listening to Metallica or Pantera and watching the occasional movie, wrestling is his life…or, as he would tell you, his destiny.
It’s easy to understand why. His father is WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton, his uncle Barry “Barry O” Orton, and his grandfather “The Big O,” the late Bob Orton, Sr. Most kids remember their first ball game or school play; Randy’s childhood memories include sitting in the kitchen of his family’s St. Louis home with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, and repairing a broken banister leaned on by Andre the Giant. He wasn’t even five years old when he watched his father knock out “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff in the main event at the inaugural WrestleMania, but he already knew he wanted to be a WWE Superstar.
Randy’s parents tried dissuading him; his father even warned that life in the ring meant a life on the road, away from family. Yet Randy, seeing how his friends perceived his world-traveling dad in “a different light,” recalls only thinking the prospect was “quite appealing, and something I wanted to do.”
Still, he agreed to try other avenues first. After graduating Hazelwood Central High School in 1998 (where he was an accomplished amateur wrestler), Orton enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His plan was to serve a four-year tour of duty, then focus on a wrestling career; his reality was a dishonorable discharge one year later, due to unauthorized absences on two occasions (one for 82 days) and for disobeying a superior officer’s direct order. After spending 38 days in the brig of Camp Pendleton Base, he would resume his civilian life…and to pursuing his destiny.
Back home in St. Louis, Orton accompanied his father backstage at a local WWE live event in late 1999. He left the show with an opportunity to try out in Stamford, which soon resulted in a developmental deal to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling. Orton quickly rose through OVW’s ranks, and in April 2002, he officially made his WWE debut as a member of SmackDown. The third-generation Superstar had at last fulfilled his dream, though a long-standing rivalry with Mick Foley (and a brutal Hardcore Match at Backlash in 2004 that Orton remembers as one of his greatest contests) provided him with a new purpose:
What better way to make himself a WWE legend…than to destroy the legends before him?
Since then, many WWE legends have fallen to Randy Orton. And many more will follow.
It’s his destiny.

Signature Move: 450 Splash

When it comes to exciting, high-flying wrestlers on Raw, Paul London immediately comes to mind. Only in his 20s, London has already acheived stardom in WWE, winning the WWE Tag Team and Cruiserweight Championships since his WWE debut in October 2003.
London may be a bizarre personality, but once the bell rings, he's all business. He has impressed fans with innovative moves such as the “Dropsault” (a combination dropkick and moonsault), the “mushroom stomp” and his 450 splash. And his successful tag team combination with Brian Kendrick has only led to more innovation.
In March 2005, London won a Battle Royal on Smackdown to win the Cruiserweight Championship. Chavo Guerrero claimed London never actually defeated Chavo one-on-one, which lead to their match at Judgment Day. There, London retained his championship and successfully defended it until losing to Nunzio in August 2005.
London and Kendrick scored yet another upset victory when they defeated MNM for the sixth straight time at Judgment Day to capture the WWE Tag Team Championship. London & Kendrick would hold those titles for nearly a year before being defeated, making them the longest running WWE Tag Team Champions in history.
London's partner in crime
London's tag team partner, Brian Kendrick, was drafted with Paul in the 2007 Supplemental Draft.
Record-setting Champion
Along with partner Brian Kendrick, Paul London held the WWE Tag Team Championship for over 11 months, longer than any other champions in the history of the title.

PAUL BURCHILL
Weight: 247 pounds
From: Chelsea, England
Signature Move: Reverse swinging neckbreaker
Associates: Katie Lea Burchill (His sister)
WWE Debut: August 2005
If Burchill looks familiar to our longtime fans, there’s a good reason for that: He first made his debut on SmackDown in 2005. Burchill was discovered and mentored by countryman William Regal, who taught him all the tricks of the trade in submission holds and torture. The two ultimately parted ways, and Burchill was sidelined with an injury in 2006. During his time away from WWE, he honed his skills and healed from injuries and is now ready to make his mark.
So, watch out Superstars. Paul Burchill has been unleashed, and he’s ready to inflict some pain.
What Katie wants, Katie gets. This mysterious brunette is sinfully beautiful, yet sadistic, and has an intense loyalty to her brother.

Mr. McMahon: Promotional Powerhouse
NEW YORK CITY – What took these people so long?
That is, perhaps, what the ever-irascible Mr. McMahon thought as he looked out onto the assembled masses in the Grand Ballroom of Manhattan’s Hilton New York Hotel. The WWE Chairman found himself there to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 53rd annual PromaxBDA Conference for his remarkable accomplishments and innovations in global marketing, advertising and promotion.
“I truly deserve this,” the WWE Chairman told the capacity crowd composed of hundreds of entertainment industry insiders as well as the McMahon family, including wife Linda, daughter Stephanie and son Shane. “[That’s] probably something you won’t hear anybody else say.”
Then again, no one else has been so willing to venture the risks Mr. McMahon has --risks that have forged WWE into a worldwide marketing force, broadcast in 130 countries in 23 different languages.
“Mr. McMahon has created an indispensable television brand,” said PromaxBDA president Jonathan Block-Verk as he opened the ceremony, “one that, quite literally, keeps the lights on at many [television] networks and stations around the globe.”
After accepting his award, the Chairman sat with Chris Pursell, Deputy Editor of TelevisionWeek, for a special Q&A session. Questions ranged from who Mr. McMahon thought was the ultimate Superstar (“That would be me!”) and where he came up with the idea for Mr. McMahon’s Kiss My Ass Club (“I have 10 employees lined up every morning to do just that, so I decided to bring it to TV.”), to prevailing over WCW in the Monday Night Wars (“I really enjoyed kicking Ted Turner’s butt.”) and how he created his latest promotional masterstroke, "McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania" (“That process is called ‘insanity.’”).
Over the course of the 45-minute event, Mr. McMahon advised the marketing hopefuls that an idea might need more than just three weeks to work, never dictate to your audience, rather give your audience what it is they want, and don’t be afraid to take risks.
“[The first] WrestleMania was unquestionably my biggest gamble,” said the Chairman, responding to one questioner. “If that hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be sitting here.”
And “here” has been pretty good to the larger-than-life risk-taker recently. The man our fans hate to love received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March, and now joins past PromaxBDA Lifetime Achievement Award luminaries, including artist and pop icon Peter Max.
Toward the end of the ceremony, Mr. McMahon unleashed his characteristic immodesty one last time.
“As a model, [WWE] could be the greatest and biggest marketing juggernaut in the world,” the Chairman told the rapt audience. He then added, with a sly grin, “And I say that humbly.”
Meet Vince McMahon, Chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment
Vincent Kennedy McMahon doesn’t give a damn about what society thinks he should be. “You have to be, as an individual, comfortable with yourself first and foremost, and true to yourself,” he says.
Recognized as the billionaire patriarch of World Wrestling Entertainment since buying the company in 1982, McMahon wouldn’t learn the truth about himself—or who his father was—until he was 12 years old, enduring a far-from-ideal childhood while growing up in a Moon trailer in Havelock, N.C. Though he’d spend only six weeks each summer and occasional holidays up in Connecticut with wrestling promoter Vincent James McMahon (who had succeeded his own father, Jess, in running the then-Capitol Wrestling Federation operation across the Northeast), he knew exactly how he wanted to spend the rest of his life.
For more than 20 years, casual fans thought Vince McMahon was simply an announcer behind the microphone, calling the ring action and interviewing the Superstars. Backstage, however, McMahon elevated the World Wrestling Federation from the smoky, dimly-lit arenas to national, followed by global, prominence through syndication and cable, making sports-entertainment a household word. To this day, the WWE Chairman modestly credits his success to his father’s original business plan, “some chutzpah, a strong work ethic, a little bit of imagination, and some luck.”
The “Mr. McMahon” perceived by WWE fans is a womanizer, a self-professed “genetic jackhammer” who has made his way around the Divas locker room on more than one occasion. But wife (and WWE CEO) Linda knows better. She simply remembers the two promises a 20-year-old Vince McMahon made to her on the day they were married: “He said, I will always love you, and that there will never be a dull moment. And Vince has fulfilled both of those promises,” she laughs.
History suggests “Mr. McMahon” has spent as much time battling his own family as he has any WWE Superstar; his “Street Fight” with son Shane at WrestleMania X-Seven evoke some of his fondest memories. (“Can you imagine how much fun it is for a father to be in there with his son?” he asks. “It can’t get any better than that.”) But while “family man” may be the last words you’d use to describe McMahon, “grandfather” is one he values most outside the squared circle, especially come playtime with his grandchildren. “He missed out on a lot of stuff with his own children…just because he was gone so much more,” Shane says. “He gets to relive that now, and you can see how much fun he’s having.”
Stephanie McMahon admits initially being “not too happy” about having a Father vs. Daughter “I Quit” match at No Mercy in October 2003—six days before her wedding. But she cherishes such in-ring moments with her father as much as those she spent as a little girl standing on his feet and dancing with him. “He has always made it a point to spend special time with me and Shane,” she says. “Whether it was on the back of his motorcycle and going too fast—we didn’t tell my mom—if it was talking business, or if it was just him taking me out to dinner, my dad is the most wonderful father that there could ever be.”
Like him or hate him, McMahon has also earned the respect of every WWE Superstar; after all, not many billionaire business moguls have broken their coccyx while falling off a steel cage, or severed both quadriceps tendons while entering a ring. And come back from such injuries, stronger than ever, through constant training and rehabilitation. The Chairman of the Board’s physique is a constant source of pride in front of the WWE cameras, though in private he’s loathe to call himself a bodybuilder, even after his 240 pounds of barrel-chested sinew muscled its way onto the cover of the April 2006 issue of Muscle & Fitness magazine.
Vince McMahon perhaps demonstrates his greatest strength when it comes to supporting the United States Armed Forces, personally addressing the troops overseas and thanking them for the sacrifices they’ve made to defend their country. At those moments, Linda sees “the character and the man blend”; McMahon, however, has a candid opinion about both himself and his role as a sports-entertainer.
“I don’t know if I consider myself a patriot,” he states, “but I do consider myself the luckiest man in the world.”

“I love to fight,” admits Mr. McMahon. “I always have.”
He’s not kidding. He was already a 12-year-old hellraiser “majoring in badass” when he met his father, Vincent James McMahon, a reputable boxing and wrestling promoter in charge of the Northeast region. As a teen, he’d spend summers with his dad in Connecticut, amazed by both the business and his idol, Dr. Jerry Graham, the peroxide-dyed, red-garbed ring performer who lit his cigars with hundred-dollar bills. The rest of the time he channeled his ruthless aggression at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va., where he’d graduate as the first cadet in the school’s history to be court-martialed. (“Unsuccessfully,” he’s quick to note, citing that there was no evidence of any wrongdoing on his part other than insubordination.)
It took a degree in Business Administration/Marketing at East Carolina University, followed by several unproductive years selling adding machines and ice-cream accessories, before Mr. McMahon convinced his father to bring him into the family business. Strangely enough, he’d spend less than a year learning the ropes as a promoter when the senior McMahon “promoted” him as a match announcer, only moments before a show in Hamburg, Penn. For more than 20 years, Mr. McMahon would remain behind the mic, even after buying the World Wrestling Federation from his father in 1982 and taking it to unprecedented levels. To this day, many out-of-work regional promoters maintain that he continued doing in-ring play-by-play only to smokescreen what he was accomplishing outside the squared circle.
The truth is, the Chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment couldn’t make a global multimedia juggernaut without breaking a few companies. So he broke all of them, and took great satisfaction in devouring any wrestling promotion that refused to “join” his brand of sports-entertainment. As Sgt. Slaughter puts it, “He screwed everybody. That was the part of him that wanted to be the best there is.”
Mr. McMahon admits to feeling a tad remorseful after acquiring his last, and greatest, threat—World Championship Wrestling (WCW), the seemingly “unbeatable” organization bankrolled by billionaire Ted Turner—simply because he missed the struggle. So in 2002 he decided to split Raw and SmackDown into separate brands, effectively creating his own competition.
Despite his vast wealth and social status, Mr. McMahon still loves nothing more than knuckling up. And he’ll do it anytime, anywhere—inside the ring (where his longtime rivalry with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin still raises hell within the WWE fan base) or from the boardroom. He tells those who don’t like it that they can kiss his ass; in fact, he even founded an elite club for doing precisely that.
Raw announcer Jim Ross is convinced that his boss’ constant need to fight is what fuels his success. “His competitive nature is what he carries with him every waking moment,” he says.
Mr. McMahon agrees, adding that no one better than he understands what it means to be a competitor. “You’ve got to grab your competition by the throat,” he insists, “and squeeze the life out of them.”

Mike adamle
Associates: Tazz (ECW broadcast partner)
WWE Debut: Jan. 27, 2008
Joining the WWE broadcast team at the 2008 Royal Rumble in Madison Square Garden, Mike Adamle brings more than 30 years of television experience to the sports-entertainment arena. He will need that experience and much more as Raw General Manager.
A Northwestern University gridiron great who enjoyed a successful NFL career as a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets and Chicago Bears, Adamle would participate in four Super Bowls, either on the sidelines or as a studio analyst, for CBS and NBC Sports. Amazingly, however, during his extensive time as an NBC Sports studio host and sideline reporter for NFL games, Mike would become best known as the co-host of the groundbreaking competition series American Gladiators. From 1989 to 1996, Adamle’s name became as recognized as the Gladiators themselves, and synonymous with the ever-competitive field of sports-entertainment.
Following American Gladiators, Mike was a reporter for ESPN’s SportsCenter, a sideline reporter for the XFL in 2001, and covered the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. In the summer of 2005, he hosted Bravo's Battle of the Network Reality Stars, then became a color commentator for Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series a year later.
After months of providing his wide-ranging insights and observations for our fans each and every Monday night on Raw, Adamle joined the announcers' table on ECW on Sci Fi alongside Tazz in April 2008. In the Land of the Extreme, he worked to build a closer relationship with our fans. One unique quality he has been able to bring to the broadcast booth during this time is a variety of colorful limericks that showcase the strong points of Superstars and his broadcast colleagues alike.
