PORTLAND, Ore. – In the opening match at No Mercy, ECW Champion Matt Hardy kicked off the explosive pay-per-view with perhaps the most important win of his career. After applying the Twist of Fate, Hardy secured his victory with a pin on challenger Mark Henry.

The champion’s victory puts to rest the World’s Biggest Mouth in the Land of the Extreme. Week after week, Henry has come after Hardy, arguing that he is the rightful ECW Title holder having not gotten pinned in the ECW Championship Scramble Match at Unforgiven. No Mercy marked an opportunity for the rightful owner to claim the prize and the incumbent champ made the most of it.

Hardy overcame four opponents, including then-ECW Champion Henry, when he initially won the title. His road to the top spot and his journey since has included massive obstacles, but Hardy has met every one of them and has shown why he deserves the title around his waist
