WWE Women's Champion Mickie James vs. Katie Lea Burchill (WWE Women's Championship Match)

WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James has held her title since April, defeating numerous opponents and showing the world why she deserves to be a four-time Women’s Champion. At Night of Champions, James will defend her title against Katie Lea Burchill, who – along with her brother Paul – has been introducing the Raw roster to their smashmouth brand of competition for the past two months.
On April 14, Mickie James won the WWE Women’s Championship by defeating a Diva who many thought to be an unbeatable opponent, Beth Phoenix. Proving that size and strength weren’t everything, James took down The Glamazon, and has managed to hold the powerful competitor at bay for the past two months.
At around the same time, the Burchill siblings made their Raw debut. Initially, Paul did most of the fighting, but in recent weeks Katie Lea has proven that she is more than proficient in the ring. While partnered with Beth Phoenix in a tag match against Mickie James and Melina, Katie Lea even did what The Glamazon could not, pinning James for the win. Katie Lea even went on to pin the current Women’s Champion again during an intergender tag match.
Mickie James struggled long and hard to reclaim the WWE Women’s Championship, and now she is being forced to face a Diva who has already pinned her twice in the past. At Night of Champions, will James be able to retain her title, or will Katie Lea Burchill walk away as the new WWE Women’s Champion?

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs Batista (World Heavyweight Championship Match)

Despite the obstacles presented by World Heavyweight Champion Edge and his fiancée, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero prior to his draft onto Monday Night Raw, Batista continues to stand tall, and now has a chance at the gold.
The Animal defeated The Great Khali on SmackDown to solidify his position as the No. 1 contender at Night of Champions, just one week after a triumphant victory in an uneven Eight-Man Tag Team Match to earn the golden opportunity. Will The Animal go all the way at Night of Champions and reclaim the championship?
Batista’s competition is the Ultimate Opportunist, who recently carried out a hellish plan when he & his bride-to-be banished Undertaker from WWE. Even with Batista being no longer part of the SmackDown roster, there is no telling what the pair could have planned for The Animal. Will it be enough to stop him in his tracks or will The Animal continue to fight the odds?
Don’t underestimate the Rated-R Superstar, a three-time World Heavyweight Champion, who has the savvy to do whatever it takes to keep the gold around his waist. Edge also has “The Family” to back him up, not to mention the powerful General Manager of SmackDown, who could use her influence to sway the odds at Night of Champions.
Judging by the rage Batista has unleashed recently on Shawn Michaels, The Great Khali and “The Family,” Edge needs to be ready for almost anything, especially since The Animal has proven he is most dangerous when he is backed into a corner.

WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle (WWE Tag Team Championship Match)

The team of John Morrison and The Miz has held the WWE Tag Team Championship for seven months, defending the title on both SmackDown and ECW. While they've come out on top in match-ups thus far, at Night of Champions they'll be taking on the father-son team of Finlay & Hornswoggle, after the Irish duo made their golden intentions known on SmackDown two weeks ago.
Since then, the champions and challengers have crossed paths on both ECW on Sci Fi and Friday Night SmackDown, each tandem attempting to gain the upper hand in this budding rivalry. And Miz & Morrison haven't been shy about taking cheap shots at Finlay & Hornswoggle on "The Dirt Sheet." And while SmackDown is Finlay's home brand, the Belfast brawler and his pint-sized partner have made their presence felt across all three brands in the past year. With Finlay's aggressive street fighting style and Hornswoggle's unorthodox maneuvers and hijinx, the champions will have a very unique fight on their hands.
Though Morrison and Miz have recently proven themselves formidable champions, defeating the likes of ECW Champion Kane & CM Punk in tag team competition, can Finlay & Hornswoggle's Irish onslaught be enough to finally relieve the cocky champions of their titles?

World Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase & ??? (World Tag Team Championship Match)

Since December of last year, the team of Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes has been a well-oiled machine, fighting off all who have dared to challenge them for the World Tag Team Championship. At Night of Champions they’ll have to defend their titles once again, but this time against Ted DiBiase, a Superstar they’ve never faced, and his partner, who has yet to be revealed.
Though the experienced veteran and second-generation Superstar have worked well together after an initial rivalry, recent weeks have seen their relationship begin to unravel, with their lack of synergy having cost them multiple non-title matches. Holly has blamed their losing streak on Rhodes not following his lead as the veteran of the team, and it has led to arguments between the two Superstars.
The champions’ strife began around the same time as the debut of DiBiase, son of “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase. The WWE Legend introduced his son as Raw’s newest Superstar, with the third-generation Superstar going on to claim that he planned on obtaining championship gold in his very first match against Holly & Rhodes at Night of Champions, beside a partner of his choice.
Watching the champions’ matches week after week, Ted DiBiase has noted that Holly & Rhodes aren’t on the same page. Will they be able to once again work together to successfully defend the World Tag Team Championship? And who will Ted DiBiase choose to stand by him in this title opportunity?

WWE Champion Triple H vs. John Cena (WWE Championship Match)

During WrestleMania 22’s historic main event, Triple H attempted to win the WWE Championship from John Cena. More than two years later at Night of Champions, these two Superstars will again fight for the WWE Title, but this time around, it rests on the waist of The King of Kings. With Randy Orton and JBL both in Triple H and John Cena’s respective rear-view mirrors, these two move toward a battle on the night showcasing sports-entertainment’s top competitors.
Ever since his return to WWE during the 2008 Royal Rumble Match, following a serious pectoral tear, Cena has tried to regain the WWE Title. It is gold that he held before his injury and never actually lost, as it was taken away due to his inability to defend it. Following their victories at One Night Stand, Cena and Jeff Hardy were the clear choices for the No. 1 contender spot, but after defeating Hardy in singles competition, the Chain Gang Soldier earned a chance to reclaim what was lost.
But The Game isn’t going to just hand over the coveted title. He is in the midst of a phenomenal 12th World Championship reign and having just gone to the edge and back to put down Randy Orton, Triple H will attempt the same to defeat John Cena.
These are two of the premier athletes in sports-entertainment history, both possessing talent surpassed only by their drive and determination. Who will walk away victorious at Night of Champions, the one night of the year where every title in WWE is defended?

ECW Champion Kane vs. Big Show ECW Championship Match

Size will not hinder either contender at Night of Champions between the 7-foot, 441-pound Big Show and the 7-foot, 326-pound monster, ECW Champion Kane.
With little opposition, the Big Red Monster has dominated as ECW Champion, destroying 24 men in a Battle Royal Match and beating Chavo Guerrero at WrestleMania XXIV to win the gold. His strength has been unparalleled by any Superstar in the Land of the Extreme … until now.
At One Night Stand, while Kane himself looked on, Big Show used a Singapore cane to knock out each of his opponents and drop former ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer with a massive chokeslam en route to victory. With a gruesome gouge above his eye, The World’s Largest Athlete more than earned the opportunity to battle the Big Red Machine at Night of Champions. A multiple-time champion, Big Show has held the ECW, WWE and World Heavyweight Titles, and now looks to reclaim his position at the pinnacle of the Land of the Extreme.
However, Kane is a force to be reckoned with, being a winner of several championships, as well. It will certainly be an unforgettable night of action as the two monsters tackle each other to the end.

United States Champion Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero

It will be the formidable champion against a confident challenger; the brother daredevil against a family legacy; the aerial assault of United States Champion Matt Hardy against the self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior” Chavo Guerrero. What better place for such tremendous forces to meet than Night of Champions?
The surprise match was announced on SmackDown by Guerrero himself, who emerged in the middle of the ring before Hardy’s match against Chuck Palumbo to proclaim that he would face the United States Champion. And that is not a challenge that should be taken lightly.
Since bursting into the Land of Extreme last year, Guerrero has become a Superstar who backs up his words. Last year, a similar situation preceded his victory over CM Punk, which earned him the ECW Championship. And after aligning himself with SmackDown’s World Heavyweight Champion Edge and “The Family,” he has become an even greater force to be reckoned with.
However, Guerrero will need every bit of skill and cunning he has to defeat the current champion. Matt Hardy’s fast-paced style combined with a high-flying assault has always made him a dangerous threat anywhere in the ring. But now that he has climbed to the top of the plateau, his commitment to establish himself as a fighting champion has made him an extremely fearsome competitor.
Will Hardy solidify his reign, or will Guerrero once again bring glory back to the Guerrero family? Find out Sunday, June 29, at Night of Champions.
